Today we had an amazing interview with @joshillustrates on Instagram!
Josh is a Latin fashion illustrator and communicator, and we are excited to share this interview with you.
How did the brand Doble Infinito come about?
Doble Infinito was born in 2017 while I was in the last semester of my master’s in Fashion and Marketing at Anáhuac University. Before finishing my master’s, my father had just passed away, and I felt sad and a little lost. However, on social media, I found an in-person workshop where I could learn how to design rapports and illustrations on textiles using various manual and digital techniques. Without hesitation, I enrolled in this course to focus on something new, distract myself, and acquire a new skill.
As a result of this workshop, I started designing my first pieces, which eventually led to scarves featuring the Mexican motif of pepitorias—traditional Mexican sweets made of wafers with seeds and honey from Hidalgo, which I hand-drew. At first, I didn’t know if I would commercialize them or start a brand, but when I showed my latest creation and saw the reaction of friends and family, I decided to turn it into a personal project and create my own brand.
What does the name Doble Infinito mean?
Doble Infinito literally means “double infinity.” If infinity has no end, double infinity could be interpreted as endless times two. The name comes from a phrase I used to say to my parents when I was little: that I loved them “from double infinity to beyond.” It represents a love that lasts forever and remains over time.
Who is behind Doble Infinito? Can you give me a brief overview of who you are?
I am the designer and creator behind Doble Infinito. I studied graphic design for my bachelor’s degree, but I have always loved fashion as a means of expression. In 2012, I studied Marketing and Communication in the Higher University Course at ELLE Education and the Complutense University of Madrid, a couple of years after graduating. My passion for fashion kept growing, so I also studied cool hunting at CENTRO and completed a diploma in Visual Merchandising at Jannette Klein. Three years later, I pursued a Master’s in Fashion and Marketing at Anáhuac University and later earned a specialization in Digital Marketing from Condé Nast College.
I also dedicated myself to teaching for four years at Jannette Klein University in the Marketing and Advertising department. During my master’s, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Mexican fashion brands such as Yakampot, Arroz Con Leche, and Lydia Lavín.
On the personal side, I had a fashion blog years ago that earned me international recognition from the Museum at FIT in New York during the Global Fashion Bloggers exhibition, where I represented Mexico alongside icons such as The Sartorialist and Diane Pernet.
Behind Doble Infinito are also the hands of the people in our Atelier, who help shape the collections and develop the tote bags. It is very important for me to give them the recognition they deserve. This year we participated in Fashion Revolution with a mini-campaign called Who Made Your Tote Bag?, where Juanita and Caro from our team were featured, thanking them for their support in bringing our collections to life.
What materials are your tote bags made of, and where are they produced?
The tote bags are produced entirely in Mexico City and are made of denim. All illustrations are hand-drawn by me using mixed techniques including pencil, Chartpak markers, and ink.
What does “From one corner of Mexico to one corner of the world” mean?
“From one corner of Mexico to one corner of the world” is part of our brand’s DNA. It conveys a sense of belonging—that with our accessories, you can take a little piece of Mexico wherever you go. For Mexicans living abroad, it’s about carrying the pride of being Mexican with you. For Doble Infinito, fashion is a celebration of our culture, heritage, and creativity. We embrace our vibrant traditions and fuse them with modern aesthetics to create a unique and authentic style that reflects our identity.
Why is the concept of slow fashion important to you?
For me, it’s about responsible consumption and ensuring the quality of our products. It’s also about the unique value of independent brands and resisting the pressure of fast fashion. We design small collections, and in some cases, limited editions that will not be reproduced again. Some of our most loyal customers even request specially commissioned tote bags or very limited runs.
Can you tell me about the collaborations you’ve had with other fashion ventures?
This year, we collaborated with the Mexican brand Murila, which designs sustainable and timeless clothing for women. Murila represented Mexico at Uruguay Fashion Week a few months ago with their latest collection SIUAJ, inspired by Teotihuacan culture. For this collection, I created designs and illustrations of Teotihuacan motifs for some of the garments presented on the runway. It was a beautiful collaboration.
I firmly believe in the power of synergy—brands collaborating to create a movement that values Mexican design and shares it with the world.
What are five things you’ve learned about having your brand that you didn’t know when you started?
- Have patience and trust the process—developing a brand is not easy.
- Believe in yourself; if you don’t, no one else will.
- Competition will always exist, but the most important thing is how your brand and designs make people feel.
- User-generated content is often more powerful than paid ads. We don’t pay for Meta ads; instead, we share UGC from our customers and followers across our social channels and website. We tell stories!
- There are no silly ideas—you never know unless you try. Sometimes that’s the beginning of something great.
What does creativity mean to you?
For me, creativity is everything. It plays a central role in our collections and creative process. Whether in personal projects or designs inspired by my country, our creations are a kaleidoscope of colors and patterns, mostly inspired by Mexico—its landscapes, folklore, and intrinsic motifs. Through creativity, we push paradigms and mix traditional elements with contemporary design.
How would you describe the versatility of Doble Infinito’s products?
Our designs are timeless. With our tote bags, a key differentiator is their durability and size—they can withstand a lot of weight and are very spacious. They also include a small application that makes it easier to find your keys inside.
The tote bags are gender-neutral, and we proudly promote inclusivity in our designs. Each bag also features a special illustration, such as our Pan de Muerto edition or our signature phrase: From one corner of Mexico to one corner of the world.
Can you share a customer experience that makes you proud of Doble Infinito?
One of my favorite stories is about the love between a mother and son, which unexpectedly took us to Prague Fashion Week. One morning, I woke up to two incredible photos: one of my tote bag on a bridge in Prague, and another of a friend’s son carrying it at Prague Fashion Week, where it was photographed by the press as one of the best street-style looks. That moment traveled around the world.
I invite you to read the full story on our blog, along with many others. Our brand connects families, friends, and people who love Mexico all over the world.
Where can we find Doble Infinito and purchase your products?
You can find Doble Infinito at the Fundamentally Showroom, located at Colima 184, second floor, in Colonia Roma, Mexico City.
What’s next for Doble Infinito?
That’s the hardest question! I would love to design clothes at some point. Until then, I will continue designing tote bags and other beautiful things, as well as collaborating with other brands.
