Day of the Dead in Mexico

The Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican celebration that takes place on November 1st and 2nd. It is a time to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. Unlike mourning rituals, this holiday is joyful and colorful, combining indigenous beliefs with Catholic traditions introduced during the Spanish colonization.

Families build altars (ofrendas) decorated with candles, flowers (especially marigolds, or cempasúchil), photographs, favorite foods, and drinks of the deceased. The idea is that the souls return during these days to share time with the living.
